HP Envy 3D: A complete review

HP has entered the next dimension in digital entertainment by introducing 3D in their Envy 17 series laptops. They have included ATis’ latest 3D technology to transform the Envy 17 3D laptop into a desirable media machine which will be perfect to keep your family and friends entertained. You can analyze data sets, render images, professionally edit videos, and enjoy serious gaming with this Envy 17 3D laptop.

HPs’ new Envy 17 3D series will give its’ closest competitor, Nvidias’ 3D Vision a close competition with its’ outstanding features. It has a 17.3” widescreen display which helps you to see great pictures. It has an Intel Core i5 580M processor which is capable of multi-tasking, even with resource-heavy software. The new Envy 17 3D laptop also has dedicated ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics card with 1GB of ultrafast DDR5 V RAM which produces great graphical performance. The Envy 17 3D has HPs’ Beats technology-enabled speakers that will reproduce the sound quality found in music studios. It has a staggering 1.5 TB of storage space which will help you to save thousands of data without deleting any of them. It also has a plenty of ports, including a Display post, a VGA and a HDMI connections. To connect peripherals, you can also use its’ four USB ports, including a speedy USB 3.0 port. It has pre-installed Adobe Photoshop that will help you to edit photos and videos to its’ best. Last but not the least, the Envy 17 3D laptop has a solid, all-metal chassis which is incredibly good-looking and solid.

But, in spite of all the great features, the Envy 17 3D laptop has a few drawbacks. Its’ weight is around 3.7 kg which is a little difficult to carry during a long journey. It has a battery life of 123 minutes which is not great either. The Intel Core i5 580M processor that runs the Envy 17 3D is not as powerful as the as the Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and Samsung RF710-S03UKs’ Core i7 CPUs.

Entertainment has been given the most importance in this new laptop with the addition of a slot-loading Blu-ray ROM drive that also supports regular DVDs and CDs.  You can configure up to 8GB of RAM, and a dual hard drive up to a massive 2TB in size. The keyboard is been aptly designed in an island style, with backlit operation and the inclusion of a numeric keypad. Besides, the Envy has ATI graphics rather than Nvidia, and comes with HP-branded specs based on technology from a company called XpanD. It also comes with some sample 3D video from the 2010 NBA All-Star Game.

So, if you keep the drawbacks of this laptop aside, then you can it can be one of the best buys for you. If you are ready to shell out a few more bucks from your pocket, then you can upgrade the HP Envy 17 3D laptop to your choice and enjoy the 3D games and movies at their best.
